The Hardie Press

Music publishers and distributors of music books, Edinburgh

The Hardie Press was established in 1984 to promote the cause of Scottish music of various styles in print. The business was founded by Alastair and William (Bill) Hardie, two of the main contributors to the Scots fiddle revival and members of the distinguished Hardie family from the north-east of Scotland, whose forebears include accomplished violin makers and traditional fiddlers.

Major interests to date include traditional fiddle music, vocal music and baroque music. Our other major publishing interest is the music of Franz (Ferenc) Liszt 1811-1886, the Hungarian pianist and composer. Urtext editions of the Chamber Music(strings and piano), Music for Piano solo, Two Pianos, Trombone & Organ/Piano and Lieder for voice & piano, are undertaken in conjunction with The Liszt Society and under the editorship of Leslie Howard, the internationally renowned pianist and authority on the music of Liszt.

We welcome enquiries from individuals, libraries, schools, music groups as well as retail and wholesale book suppliers, printed and recorded music sellers. We now supply many overseas markets where the interest in our Scottish and Liszt Society Publications is well-established.

Our material is available in most good music and book shops or on-line with our Paypal payment facility.
