This collection contains the most interesting piano pieces from the Swiss-inspired Album d’un voyageur – the source for the first of the Années de pèlerinage – as well as the very grand Fantaisie romantique sur deux mélodies suisses. Two splendid encore pieces make up the book: the spiky Mephisto-Polka and Liszt’s only bona fide original mazurka – Mazurka brillante. The volume was first published in the 1960s, but now is reissued with minor corrections taken from the best manuscript and published sources to produce an accurate text.
