Composed 1764. The Symphony in B flat was written as the overture to Samuel Arnold’s pasticcio The Maid of the Mill, which opened at Covent Garden in London on 31 January 1765. For this reason it is shorter than many of Kelly’s symphonies, with all three movements designed to be played without repeats.
