This set of songs on traditional English texts was composed in 1975 and first performed by the ensemble London Voices at the Purcell Room, London, that year. The texts date from c.1680-1840. 1. “Trip upon trenchers”, 2. “A was an Apple pie”, 3. “My mother said, I never should”, 4. “Puss came a-dancing”, 5. “Good night, sweet repose”. Suitable for choir or solo vocal quartet.
David Johnson was a Scottish composer, musicologist and author. His compositions include a wide range from pieces for schoolchildren to his five operas.
